Giuseppe Piro was born in Matera (MT) on 25 May 1984.
He received the first level (BSc) degree in Telecommunications Engineering in October 2006 and the second level degree (MSc) in Telecomunication Engineering in July 2008, both with honors, from the Polytechnic of Bari.
In June 2009 and in November 2009 he collaborated with Planete Project - INRIA, SOPHIA ANTIPOLIS (France) as research assistant under the supervision of Dr. Thierry Turletti, working on scheduling on WiMAX networks.
He got the BEST STUDENT PAPER AWARD for the SIMUTools2010 paper.
Since Mar 2010 he is on of the developers of the network simulator 3.
He partecipated to the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2010 project, proposing the development of the LTE module for ns-3 network simulator.
He partecipated to the Working Capital Tour 2010 (Bari), winning the Telecom Italia sholarship.
Research interests
His current research interests include the study of Scheduling Algorithms and Admission Control Algorithms , in order to satisfy QoS requirements of multimedia flows, for Wireless Networks.
In particular his activities are focused on:
- Feedback-Based bandwidth allocation algorithms for IEEE 802.11e WLAN.
- Scheduling algorithms for LTE (Long Term Evolution) Networks.
- Dynamic resource allocation in IEEE 802.16e (WiMAX) Networks.
Current Activities:
- analysis and implementation of scheduling srtrategies for LTE networks;
- development of WiMAX module for ns-3. The module is available on http://code.nsnam.org/ns-3-dev/.
- development of LTE module for ns-3-. The module is available onhttp://code.nsnam.org/giuseppepiro/ns-3-lte/. This activity is sponsored by Google during the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2010.
- development if the LTE-Sim, an open source simulator for 4G networks.
- Design and implementation of AnyMedia for AnyPeople, a global solution to guarantee the better quality of multimediam services on 4G technologies. This activity is sponsored by Telecom Italia - Working Capital.
Current Position
Since January 2009, he is a Ph.D. student in Electronics Engineering at the Polytechnic of Bari.
