Giuseppe Piro is a Full Professor of Telecommunications at the Polytechnic University of Bari, Italy, where he also serves as Coordinator of the Master’s Degree Programme in Telecommunications Engineering and co-leads the Experimental Laboratory of Integrated Terrestrial and Non-Terrestrial Networks and Services (iTNT-NS). He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Telecommunications Engineering, both with honours, from the Polytechnic University of Bari in 2006 and 2008, respectively, and his Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering in 2012. His research focuses on mobile communication systems and 6G, integrated terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks, physical and network-layer security, intent-based networking, the Internet of Things, Software-Defined Networking, Information-Centric Networking, nanoscale communications, and network simulation tools. He currently serves as Local Investigator for the PN RIC SUNS and Q-SUD projects, funded by the Italian MUR, and for the ESA-funded V2LEOSIM project. He is also involved in the EU Horizon Europe 6G-GOALS project. Previously, he served as Principal Investigator of the PRIN INSPIRE project and as Local Investigator for several national and international research initiatives, including the PNRR PE7 SERICS project ISP5G+, the PRIN project “Realtime Control of 5G Wireless Networks: Taming the Complexity of Future Transmission and Computation Challenges,” and the ESA-funded SATIABLE and NB-IoT4Space projects. He has also contributed to the PNRR RESTART project funded by Italian MUR, as well as to several EU H2020 projects, including FANTASTIC-5G, BONVOYAGE, symbIoTe, and GUARD; Italian MIUR PON projects, including Pico&Pro, FURTHER, AGREED, and RAFAEL; and Italian MISE initiatives related to 5G experimentation and the Casa delle Tecnologie Emergenti in Matera. He is the founder of the open-source simulation projects 5G-air-simulator, LTE-Sim, and NANO-SIM. He regularly serves on the Technical Programme Committees of leading international conferences and is currently an Associate Editor for Internet Technology Letters, Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing, and Sensors.
